(MENAFN - Arab Times) The Criminal Court issued a verdict of four-year imprisonment with hard labor followed by immediate deportation as well as a fine of KD 1,000 against an Asian expatriate who was accused of consuming and possessing drugs.
The defendant did not attend the court session as he had run away.
According to the case files, when the defendant went to claim his vehicle that was seized by traffic officers for a traffic accident, the security officers at the location sensed that he was disoriented. They checked him and found hashish with him.
He was referred to the concerned authorities for a medical test, which revealed that he had consumed drugs.
However, the suspect managed to escape from police custody and failed to turn up at the court session. According to Article 2/122 of the Penal Code, the court is allowed to issue a verdict in the absence of the defendant.
