(MENAFN - Arab News) Prince Mansour bin Miteb, municipal and rural affairs minister, has announced the construction of 5,000 housing units which will be completed in three years as part of the Salman Bay Housing Project.
The first phase of the project is estimated to cost in excess of SR 1.5 billion. This was disclosed during a ceremony yesterday hosted by Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company (JDURC) to launch the construction phase of the residential suburbs project at Salman Bay on Durrat Al-Arous Road.
Prince Mansour declared that housing projects in Saudi cities come under the guidance and in line with the aspirations of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman for the city of Jeddah to become a model city in order to meet housing requirements and the needs of Jeddah's citizens in a high-quality and livable residential environment.
He explained that the handling of housing requirements is going through a series of projects including housing, developed land distribution and other projects. He pointed out that such projects would meet the increased demand for housing and mitigate the housing crisis in big cities.
Prince Mansour commended the Jeddah Municipality and JDURC's leaders for their efforts in serving their country and the well-being of Saudis, as Salman Bay Housing Project represents one of JDURC's mega housing projects in order to deal with housing problems and meet Jeddah's requirements and its needs of housing units.
Prince Mansour said the residential suburban project at Salman Bay will serve as a model for similar projects in other Saudi cities., especially that many countries worldwide have implemented the idea of suburbia which is reflected positively in communities as well as contributed to urban development and created typical residential suburbs with modern standards and energy-efficient integrated solutions.
Salman Bay Housing Project is considered part of the future expansion of Jeddah. It will accommodate around 25,000 units of building apartments with a total area of approximately 3 million sq. meters.
Prince Mansour inaugurated the construction phase of the project in the presence of Hani Aburas and CEO of JDURC Walid Abdel-Aal.
The project will accommodate 5,000 typical housing units with integrated facilities and services with an implementation period of three years at an estimated cost SR 1.5 bn. He unveiled the memorial plaque to mark the launching of the project.
The opening ceremony included a visual presentation about the project since its inception, its progress and future prospects.
Addressing the ceremony, Mayor Aburas expressed his happiness at the attendance of Prince Mansour.
"The project creates a typical residential suburb with integrated services and facilities in order to meet the needs of all societal classes," Aburas pointed out.
He added that the residential suburban projects are a feature of developed cities in the world.
JDURC is a public company owned by the Jeddah Municipality which will spearhead Jeddah's transformation into a vibrant and distinguished city through vital urban development projects in line with the aspirations of the government.
This is in order for the city of Jeddah to become a model city and to meet the needs and expectations of Jeddah's citizens and visitors as well as to achieve the aspirations of Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed for Jeddah to become a world-class city.
The project will have 25,000 housing units in 1,250 residential buildings, 24 mosques, 14 schools, a hospital and two polyclinics, in addition to a Red Crescent station, a police station and other facilities.
