(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors - Australia) Potash West (ASX: PWN) has lodged a provisional patent application for a successful processing breakthrough for its Dandaragan Trough Project in Western Australia, which is already attracting substantial outside interest.
The company has developed a flowsheet that produces sulphate of potash (SOP), high magnesium SOP, single superphosphate, iron oxide and aluminium sulphate from glauconite that is extracted from the extensive greensand deposits in the Dandaragan Trough.
This has been called the K-Max process and to maximise the value of this intellectual property, Potash West has applied for a patent.
Potash West has developed considerable knowledge in the processing of the greensand, with ongoing investigations continuing to enhance the value of this resource, and the application of the K-Max process to other deposits.
The company has already been approached by other companies seeking information on this processing breakthrough.
Potash West has a major landholding over the world's largest known glauconite deposit with previous exploration indicating glauconite sediments are widespread for more than 150 kilometres along strike and 20 kilometres in width.
The 2,900 square kilometre Dandaragan Trough Project is strategically located adjacent to the Western Australian Wheat Belt, a major consumer of fertiliser products.
Significantly, there is no potash production in Australia and the Dandaragan Trough Project is located within Australia's largest potash consuming region.
Australia currently consumes half a million tonnes per annum of potash, which at present is all imported.
The project also has a transport advantage to two major growth markets â€" India and China, with established export infrastructure in place nearby.
Potash West recently defined a maiden JORC Resource of 244 million tonnes at 3% K20 and 1.6% P2O5 over the Dinner Hill Prospect after completing a 3,272 metre drilling program.
