(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) has appointed Frenchman Di Pietra Salvino as the national coach following the signing of an agreement with Nice-based ISP Tennis Academy recently. The 38 year old Salvino, who is from the French academy, will train senior and age-group players in the sultanate and has signed a two-year deal. The agreement will also enable the academy to assist the OTA with its training and development programmes. Salvino, who has coached juniors at the academy in Nice before coming to Oman, told Muscat Daily, ''I am excited to take up this challenge.I have coached U12 and U14 players at the ISP Tennis Academy who played in ITF and European tournaments. ''In Oman, I will mainly focus on the juniors players and we will be looking for talented kids to increase the pool of junior players who can represent the country in the future.'' Regis Lavergne, the ISP Tennis Academy's head coach, was also in Muscat with Salvino to finalise the deal with the OTA.Lavergne, a former international player, had touched an ATP ranking of 195 in 1998, when he was ranked 16th in France. ''It takes five to six years of regular training for a junior player if he or she wants to compete at top-level tournaments by the time they are 17 or 18,'' Lavergne said. ''We are looking forward to share our experience with Oman. The conditions are much different here. The on-court coaching apart, we have to understand the mindset of the local players and their parents.'' Karim Sadallah, the OTA's technical director, said, ''Our association with the ISP Tennis Academy is almost a year old now. Oman's Davis Cup team that comprised Mohammed and Khalid al Nabhani had trained there in March-April this year. Then in June, our junior team went there for a summer camp. We were highly impressed with the coaches at that academy and with their training methods. We will definitely benefit from this partnership
