US- Pfizer to slash 20% of sales workforce: Report

(MENAFN) Pharmaceutical firm Pfizer Inc plans to slash nearly 20 percent of its sales workforce at the primary-care drugs division, reported Reuters citing Bloomberg News report. The company's spokesman, MacKay Jimeson, who didn't confirm the number of the job cuts, said that Pfizer is making adjustments in several segments of its field force to match the future requirements of the business. According to the Bloomberg report, the measure, which will start this month, will see nearly 600 out of 3,000 sales staff discharged of their jobs. It is worth noting that in last year's November, Pfizer, which is reducing costs as cheaper generic drugs have entered the market and eroded market share and revenue, lost its patent in the US for Lipitor, whose annual sales exceeded USD10 billion.
