(MENAFN Press) The leading human rights grantmaking organization in the Arab Region, the Arab Human Rights won the "regional foundation of the year" award at the inaugural Middle East philanthropy award organized by Campden Wealth and the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.

This prestigious recognition coincides with another major milestone; the Fund's total grants crossed 2 million dollars since its inception in 2008, targeting more than 80 actors in the field of human rights in 20 Arab countries.
In the presence of the region's top philanthropists and foundations, Dr. Elie Abouaoun, the executive director of the Fund, received the award in a vibrant celebration in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Dr. Abouaoun said in his speech that the award is a recognition of the Fund's efforts in service of human rights in the Arab Region, noting that the fund doesn't only provide financial support to human rights projects in the Arab Region, but cultivates domestic philanthropy, and provides technical support, in addition to seeking new and sustainable resources which will contribute in strengthening the work of the Arab Civil Society.

He stressed on the importance of changing the perception of CSR as it is not only aimed at relieving people in need, but it should address the need to restoring people's dignity calling the private sector in the Arab Region to revisit their approach with regards to human rights, CSR, and civic engagement, and therefore follow the worldwide trend towards strengthening the role of business enterprises in supporting the universal values of human rights.

He praised as well the emerging initiatives that reflect this dynamic such as the "Community Banking Initiative" launched by Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank to cater for the needs of the not-for profit sector.
