(MENAFN) The Conference Board of Canada's latest report shows that in the near future, the country may become the second-biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter in the world, reported Xinhua News.

Over the coming 24 years, demand for the country's gas will increase the double, boosted by both LNG shipments to Asia and higher use of natural gas locally.

A number of firms have announced plans for LNG liquefaction plants, pipelines and export facilities in British Columbia, the westernmost province of Canada, in order to export LNG.

The report showed that general production growth is forecasted to contribute a cumulative USD586 billion to Canada's economy and support 129,000 jobs a year.

Investments in natural gas industry are expected to total USD392 billion, with British Columbia forecasted to see USD184 billion in investment between 2012 and 2035.
