Gulf Air may have to hire 100 unemployed Bahraini pilots

(MENAFN) Bahrain's parliament's legislative and legal affairs committee chairman, MP Ali Al Ateesh, called for Gulf Air to recruit 100 jobless Bahraini pilots, reported Arabian Business. Al Ateesh demanded MPs to accept a new proposal to recruit the country's jobless pilots, saying that Bahrain must not lose qualified Bahraini pilots to regional or foreign rivals. Gulf Air Trade Union president, Habib Al Nabbool, who supported the move, said that in terms of promotion, nationals must be given priority over other nationalities. The struggling carrier has cut the number of its destinations to 40 from 120, while 1,800 staff could be discharged as part of a deal to secure a USD490.8 million bailout.
