S Korea capital goods represent 48.7% of 2011's total exports

(MENAFN) South Korea's Ministry of Knowledge Economy stated that the country's exports of capital goods accounted for 48.7 percent of 2011's total exports, compared with 41.6 percent in 2001, reported Xinhua News. The ministry said that the share of exports of raw materials grew to 36.3 percent of total exports last year from 29.1 percent in 2001. It noted that the continual growth of exports of capital goods and raw materials during the aforementioned period managed to offset a decline in exports of consumer goods, whose share fell to 14.9 percent of total exports in 2011 from 29.2 percent. In 2011, exports of parts and components surged to USD255.3 billion, compared with USD61.98 billion in 2001, whereas exports of auto parts grew to USD23.08 billion from USD2.22 billion. It is worth noting that exports of raw materials include steel and chemical products, while exports of consumer goods include electronics and automobiles.
