Municipality and Ashghal:Efforts to Establish Sound Infrastructure


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatar's Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and the Public Works Authority "Ashghal" have accomplished several achievements in the various infrastructure related projects and public services. In the filed of urban planning and infrastructure, 1562 lands have been allocated for land subdivision projects, in addition to the projects that were already prepared and expected to finish by 2012. In the area of public parks, plants and flowers were being produced locally. A number of parks and playgrounds were established in different areas in the state. Among other projects are the tropical street project, the automated train project, and others. In the municipalities area, electronic services provided by the municipalities were developed to include the withdrawal of sewage, trimming trees, insect and rodent control and raise the neglected cars. Building permits, licenses maintenance, demolition permits and certificates of completion of construction in various parts of the country were issued. The Ministry also conducts intensive campaigns to raise waste, clean beaches and control insect and rodent in homes, buildings, clubs, and farms. The Ministry is currently working on five strategies for different sectors: the national housing strategy in Qatar, the national heritage strategy in cooperation with the Qatar Museums Authority, the general strategy of community services in collaboration with other bodies and institutions responsible for providing community services, the open spaces and entertainment activities strategy, the overall strategy for tourism in Qatar in cooperation with the General Tourism Authority. An annual detailed plan for the comprehensive urban plan projects in the State was prepared, in addition to 6 steering action plans to guide and manage the urban plan project for a period of 5 years. (MORE)For its part, the Public Works Authority "Ashghal" seeks to implement and manage the infrastructure projects and government buildings in the state with a modern world-class specifications that achieve Qatar Vision 2030. Thus, Ashghal launched the Public Works Authority Strategy 2011-2016 to came in line with Ashghal's constant pursuit to contribute to Qatar s progress and development as laid out in the state s National vision. During the part year, Ashghal signed nearly 110 contract for major projects at a total cost amounted to QR 9 million; and implemented improvement and development projects of roads in all municipalities in Qatar. Ashghal also signed contracts for new road projects with an estimated total cost of QR 4 million. The contracts also include projects to improve the roads at intersections and roundabouts in different areas in Doha.
