Qatar- National Day: Industrial Development Based on Sound Planning


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatar's Ministry of Energy and Industry has contributed to the industrial revival in the country through the good planning and the rehabilitation and development of industrial areas. The Strategic Planning Section at the Ministry finished preparation of 10 investment files for small and medium projects in cooperation with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), and it is expected to hold a promotional seminar of these projects the end of 2012. The department also cooperated with the Indian National Small Industries Corporation for the preparation of 30 investment dossier for small and medium projects. The department is also carrying out in study in the field of food industry in order to evaluate and develop the existing industries and identify the missing industries in this sector, in addition to cooperation with Qatar Petroleum to prepare 50 investment files for medium and big projects. Meanwhile, the Ministry's Licensing and Control Section issued 108 industrial licenses for projects in various industrial sectors in accordance with the provisions of Law No. (20) of 2006, on the industrial organization and its executive. The total invested capital for these projects was about 3.3 billion riyals and provided 8,500 new jobs in 2011. 342 preliminary approval to the establishment of new industrial projects, or development, or transfer, or modify data licensees have also been issued during 2011. The section also registered 24 industrial projects with an annual production of about $ 18.6 billion riyals, and total capital of about 134 billion riyals, and workforce of 11,285. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy and Industry completed all infrastructure works in the small and medium industries area and operated all the necessary services for the area. The Ministry is also working on the street naming project. It is scheduled to prepare a tender for the design and installation of the signals on the streets by the systems followed in the country in coordination with the Public Works Authority. There is also a project to establish a service zone area of 70,000 square meters includes travel agencies, banks, offices and other services. Among other projects is the establishment of a medical care center in coordination with the Supreme Council for Health and Qatar Red Crescent; the establishment of temporary civil defense center. The Ministry also adopted the GCC unified mining law as a guiding law for five years and took part in the GCC General Secretariat meetings on the preparation of a list of standard for the GCC mining law. The Ministry also participated in the meetings of the national committee for the building materials specifications sector, and it is currently working on a study on the building materials industry aiming at improving the performance of this sector.
