(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatar General Tourism Authority (QTA) achieved several accomplishments in 2011-2012, starting by finalizing its organizational and functional structure, completed by the issuance of the decision of the Minister of Business and Trade No. (71) of 2011 to establish the administrative departments of QTA, after its organizational chart of the main departments and the tasks were stipulated in the Emiri decision No. (46) for 2009 regulating the General Tourism Authority.
The QTA also completed the draft program and strategy (2011-2016) and was submitted to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to ensure its consistency with the state plan.
The Authority also completed the preparation of the draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the exhibitions field between the government of Qatar and the governments of other countries. The draft MoU has been approved by the Cabinet as a unified formula to be signed with countries in order to strengthen and develop ways of mutual cooperation and boost commercial relations.
QTA also won two awards as the World's Leading Business Travel Destination for 2011 and 2012, during its participation in the Travel and Tourism Market exhibition.
The Authority also formed a joint group with Qatar University to take progressive measures to open tourism and hotel management faculty at the university.
The tourism sector has a significant role in the prosperity of the national economy for its effective contribution to the growth of GDP.
Tourism statistics is considered one of the main pillars that contribute to the growth of this sector as it gives the data and information that help in the studies required to improve service levels, which is one of the most important success factors in tourism.
