Kuwait- Bedouns stage demo for rights

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Bedouns staged a demonstration in the square of Al-Shaabi Mosque in Taima after Asr prayers on Monday to demand citizenship and other civil rights. The protesters raised Kuwaiti flags and placards to air their grievances and present their demands, calling on the concerned authorities to end to their suffering. Director of Jahra Security Directorate Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah led the negotiations with the protesters before they started marching out of the square. When the protesters insisted on holding the demonstration, the directorate deployed Special Forces who used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowd. No injuries were reported but three of the protesters were arrested and referred to the relevant security department for the necessary legal action. Security sources revealed some of the Bedoun youths, who organized the demonstration, evaded arrest. After putting the situation in Taima under control, some officers were dispatched to Sulaibiya to prevent any untoward incident in case the Bedouns decide to hold another demonstration there. Meanwhile, MP-elect Askar Al-Enezi criticized the Interior Ministry for using force in dispersing the demonstrators and for dismantling a tent for receiving condolences at the square. On the other hand, Attorney Saad Al-Lamiya urged the ministry to deal with Bedoun protesters carefully as they have become a ticking time bomb due to oppressive acts taken against them.
