Third Doha Conference on Islamic Finance Kicks Off


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The Third Doha conference on Islamic finance kicked off on Monday under the auspices of HE the Foreign Minister and Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani,themed "The Finance Industry and Contemporary Challenges" and is sponsored by Barwa Bank. HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani, the chairman of Barwa Bank said in an opening speech that the year 2012 witnessed a remarkable expansion of Islamic financing on both regional and international levels. The most important event was the issue of Sokouk or Islamic bonds ,he said, noting that Qatar had issued $25 billion of Sokouks while Turkish Sokouks also received a positive response in the market. More than 50% of the Sokouks were sold to traditional institutions, he said , a sign of the increasing confidence in Sharia-complying investments, he said.
