Guests and invitees at the opening of TUV Rheinland’s new product safety test center in Jeddah
(MENAFN - Arab News) TUV Rheinland Arabia, a subsidiary of TUV Rheinland Group, a global provider of technical, safety and certification services, expands its worldwide capabilities by opening fully equipped test center consisting of laboratories for testing the safety of automotive spare parts and electrical appliances in Jeddah.

Press briefing for the new lab was held in Jeddah, in the presence of Secretary General of GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) Nabil Ameen Molla, representatives from Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI), Saudi Customs and Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), in addition to private sectors delegates.

The new 3600 m2 lab is located in Al Khomra, South Jeddah. Currently, the scope of work in the lab concentrates on testing the safety of motor vehicle brake pads and oil filters, home appliances, office equipment, computers, audio video equipment, lighting and telecommunication equipment.

In cooperation with Ministry of Commerce and Industry and in coordination with Saudi Customs, the lab checks the samples that have been withdrawn from imported shipments to the Kingdom before releasing it in the market. The objective of this testing is to assure the safety of products by complying with the requirements of Saudi Standards.

TUV Rheinland's technical experts have solid experience in international and local product safety regulations and technical standards. TUV Rheinland believes that as Saudi Arabia has an excellent geographic location and the largest economy in the region with fastest consumer growth, therefore the test center will enable TUV Rheinland to serve the local as well as regional markets.

''There is a vast scope and potential for car parts and electrical products testing in Saudi Arabia and the establishment of our laboratory will provide independent testing services so that the end consumers can rely on products tested by TUV Rheinland Arabia,'' said Andreas Hoefer, chief regional officer of TUV Rheinland for India-Middle East-Africa region.
