(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The Women and Child Protection division at the Human Rights Department of the Dubai Police has recorded 26 cases related to children and 46 cases of family disputes.
This was revealed during the inspectional visit of Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, to the Human Rights department as part of the annual inspection at the general police departments. Also, the women and child protection department recorded 16 cases of family violence, eight cases of negligence, four cases regarding child custody, seven cases of child support, and 24 follow-up cases.
The department resolved 27 cases this year and referred four cases to legal authorities.
It has also tackled 31 counselling cases, six of them pertaining to child custody, three cases of not issuing documents, two child support cases and two cases for executing court orders.
Al Mazeina was accompanied by Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr, Director of General Department of Human Right of the Dubai Police, and directors of departments, on his visit to the Human Trafficking Monitor Centre at the department, which recorded 24 cases of human trafficking this year as compared to the 32 cases last year.
The human trafficking monitor centre has provided legal assistance to 35 human trafficking victims compared to 61 victims in 2010, and gave material support to 22 victims as compared to 29 victims in 2010. Al Mazeina reviewed statistics of temporary labour follow-up section which showed a drop in labour strikes and protests last year as compared to 2010 .
Al Mazeina visited the rights and freedom protection department which received 576 complaints this year , compared to 505 complaints last year.
People who complained of injustice has reached 118 this year compared to 119 appeals last year.
Al Mazeina has called for putting a mechanism in place to categorise complaints, finding types of mistakes, and a mechanism for accepting appeals.
he confirmed that the Dubai Police are giving attention to human rights issues and making efforts to protect peoples' rights, fight against all dishonour and violation of humanity.
