(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The National Association for Cancer Awareness (NACA) will be called Oman Cancer Association from January. With the change in name, the association aims to have a more wider reach and also plans to cover other cancers while keeping its commitment to breast cancer.Speaking on the sidelines of a NACA fund-raising event at Grand Hyatt Muscat on Monday, Yuthar al Rawahy, the organisation's founder and chairperson said, ''The name will change next year but our objective will remain the same.'' She added that its mobile mammography unit will be at NACA's office in Azaiba throughout this month for check-ups. It will travel to the country's interiors in February.The same month, the association is planning to hold a conference and seminar on palliative care which will focus on physical and psychological methods of addressing the suffering of patients. More than 50 experts, doctors and researches are expected to take part in the nine-day event.Dr Waheed al Kharusi, general secretary, NACA, said, ''This will be a long seminar where several issues related to the suffering will be addressed. There will be experts from all over the world including Europe and the US.''It was also revealed that 40 nurses will be trained during this period by experts and later deputed at different organisations and NGOs including NACA.The fundraiser witnessed the auction of three paintings by different artists of the city. The paintings collectively fetched around RO1,500 which will go to NACA. The work by members, volunteers and contributors was also acknowledged.
