(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi announced today the launch of a project to unify road engineering standards by adopting the best international practices for design, construction, operation, maintenance and management, of roads and bridges projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as part of its efforts to improve safety and maximize the capacity of the Emirate road network.
"Unifying and Standardizing of Road Engineering Practices" project is carried out by the DoT in coordination with several strategic partners from the government of Abu Dhabi such as the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC), the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM), Al Ain Municipality (AM) and the Western Region Municipality (WRM). In addition, three global consulting firms were assigned to prepare the new standards, which are later reviewed and verified by DoT officials and experts.
The project, which is expected to be finalised in Q3 2013, consists of 34 documents covering all aspects of road engineering and related infrastructures (bridges, tunnels), such as geometry, materials, traffic, construction and maintenance standards, environmental, health and safety issues, etc.
