(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) on Monday commenced three-dimensional seismic surveys in north Kuwait, covering 4,500 square kilometers, which is a quarter of Kuwait's total geographical area, KOC Chairman and Managing Director Sami Al-Rushaid said.
The announcement was made during a press conference held on the sidelines of the ceremony of launching a project for using digital technology in seismic surveys, organized by the KOC in collaboration with World Discoveries Organization.
The three-dimensional seismic surveys cover a large and significant area and will give accurate information thanks to the use of 22,000 collectors, costing a total of roughly USD 185 million, he added.
The two-year surveys will also give very important data on north Kuwait for depths of 25,000 feet underground, the KOC pointed out.
The KOC's 2030 strategy envisions a new discovery of 750,000 barrels and 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas, Al-Rushaid told reporters.
