(MENAFN) Japan Automobile Dealers Association announced that last month's sales of new cars dropped 3.3 percent on annual basis to 243,974 vehicles, reported Xinhua News.

The association said that in the month, sales of compact cars rose 8.4 percent to 113,056 units.

It attributed the gain to the government's subsidy program for the acquisition of environmentally friendly vehicles and the strong sales of models, including Nissan Motor Co.'s Note and Mitsubishi Motors Corp.'s Mirage.

However, sales of passenger cars went down 3.3 percent to 213,762 cars, while sales of trucks fell 2.8 percent to 29,481 units, and sales of buses declined 16.3 percent to 731 units.
