Ukraine, Iran join forces to manufacture passenger aircraft

(MENAFN) Iranian Ambassador to Ukraine, Akbar Qasemi, stated that Tehran and Kiev plan to cooperate to manufacture passenger aircraft, reported Xinhua News citing official Fars news agency. Qasemi said that the two countries talks on the production of the Antonov-148 and Antonov-158 passenger planes are in the final stages, with operational preparations to begin late December. In the near future, both countries will jointly launch the production of Antonov-148 with 86 seats and Antonov-158 with 96 seats. According to Tehran's Amir Kabir University's President, Alireza Rahaei, Iran will need 600 passenger planes by 2021, of which 270 planes should have the capacity for 100 to 150 passengers. Iranian experts had finished the feasibility studies of the country's national plan to manufacture 150 passenger planes, Rahaei said in August, adding that the project had entered the designing and manufacturing phase.
