Brazil's Q3 GDP expands 0.9%


(MENAFN) The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) stated that in the third quarter, the country's economy expanded slightly by 0.9 percent from 2011's same period, reported Xinhua News. The agency said that compared with the second quarter, gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 0.6 percent. In the third quarter, GDP reached USD514 billion, moreover, in the first three quarters, the Brazilian economy expanded by only 0.7 percent. Agriculture and livestock farming saw the most positive results, growing 2.5 percent, while the industrial sector grew 1.1 percent. The figures show that tertiary industry, which represents more than half of the country's GDP, recoded a zero growth in the third quarter compared with the previous quarter. It is worth noting that Brazil's 2012 economy will grow by 1.3 percent, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
