(MENAFN) Statistics Korea stated that the country's industrial production fell 0.5 percent in October from a year ago, reported Xinhua News.

It said that the all-industry index stood at 131.3 in the month, also down from the rise of 1.3 percent in September.

A drop of 0.8 percent was reported in the output of the mining manufacturing and electricity & gas sectors from 2011, which is the first decrease in 9 months, however, from the previous month, output rose 0.6 percent, compared with a gain of 0.7 percent in September.

The decline in output in the manufacturing sector, which accounts for nearly half of all industrial output, was attributed to a drop in machinery equipment and chemical sectors.

On the other hand, production in the service industry edged up 0.9 percent in October on annual basis; nevertheless, it posted a negative 1 percent rise on monthly basis.
