(MENAFN Press) Women Empowerment Group [WE Group], a non-profit organization based in the United Emirates and mandated to enable women to value their lives, time and requirements, today held a special event to highlight the steps taken to fight Breast Cancer and the way forward to beat the scourge.
Held in association with Zahra Breast Cancer Association at Grand Hayatt Hotel, the symposium brought experts from all walks to life to talk about their experiences and share their knowledge about breast cancer.
In her comments, Ms Sahar Madani, Founder of WE Group, said: "The incidence of breast cancer, as well as living with the health condition, and the uncertainty of its outcome can be a time of emotional, physical, and spiritual upheaval in one's life. At WE Group, we have taken the mantle to bring this disease on the centre stage, and the efforts taken to fight the same."
She added: "We are thankful to experts who presented their experiences with Breast Cancer. This is a great learning curve for everyone as we can learn a lot about breast cancer through such interactions."
WE Group and Zahra Breast Cancer Association have undertaken awareness efforts to help people realize that early detection with screening mammography and medical consultation whenever there is a breast problem are important factors to save lives.
It is estimated that 80% of women who develop breast cancer in the Middle East are found to be at an advanced stage where treatment is much more difficult and the chance of cure is very low. Approximately 24% of cancer cases in the Kingdom are breast cancer cases making it the leading form of cancer within the country.
HH Princess Haifa Al Faisal, President of Zahra Breast Cancer Association, provided an overview on breast cancer. Princess Haifa said: "Breast cancer affects women mainly at their 40s. We have always remained committed to raise awareness about breast cancer and the need for early detection to cure it. Our association has undertaken a lot of initiatives to boost awareness, research, early detection, training and support survivors who benefit from a special care from our members."
She added: "We appreciate the efforts taken by WE Group to take up this noble cause and do their bit to enhance awareness and efforts to fight breast cancer. Together, we will do our best to fight the disease, and this is our ultimate objective."
In an inspiring presentation, Princess Reema Bint Bander presented a touching account about her trip to Mount Everest and about their experience with other women from KSA “ with a single-minded objective to fight breast cancer. Earlier this year, Princess Reema Bint Bandar and the Zahra Breast Cancer Association teamed up again to raise awareness about breast cancer and undertook a trip to the tallest peak on Earth with over 10 women from the Kingdom.
Dr. Janet Mackenzie, specialist plastic surgeon “ American Board from Cosmesurge, also made a presentation on breast reconstruction after the surgery. This was followed by a trophy presentation to Zahra Association to acknowledge its efforts. The event was sponsored by Chalhoub Group, GapCorp and Emirates Hospital/ Cosmesurge.
One of the core objectives of the WE Group is to support women mentally and emotionally and offer a platform to network for exploring new opportunities for growth and development.
