Oman Film Meet on March 28, five award categories added


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The seventh edition of Oman Film Meet (OFM), organised by the Oman Film Society (OFS), will be held in Sohar on March 28, 2013.Speaking about the festival, Jamil al Yaqoobi, media advisor of OFS, said, ''The film meet is held every two years to promote local Omani talent in areas like film production, direction and script writing."The first five meets were held in Muscat while Nizwa was the venue for the sixth edition of OFM, where more than 100 filmmakers had submitted entries. We expect that the number of submissions will be much higher as compared to earlier editions.''On why the festival will be a one-day affair, Yaqoobi said that only three best films in the documentary, animation and drama categories will be screened on March 28. ''The winners will be awarded gold, silver and bronze khanjars. Moreover, there will be several other prizes awarded under various categories."However, the society will screen all entries in different categories at schools, colleges, the university, shopping centres and community centres in Sohar over a period of one week starting from March 21.''The society has so far received ten entries and many have already registered on the OFM website. The deadline for submission of entries is January 30. The venue of the opening ceremony will be announced next week.The seventh edition of OFM is likely to see the addition of awards in five different categories including best film, best actor, best director, best cinematographer and best editor.
