Saudi SWCC awards USD3b water desalination plant contract

(MENAFN) Saudi Saline Water Conversion Corp (SWCC) stated that it has granted a USD3-billion water desalination plant contract to South Korea's Samsung Engineering, China's Shanghai Electric and Saudi Al Toukhi Co for Industry, Trading and Contracting, reported Arabian Business. SWCC said that the three companies will be responsible for establishing the fuel oil-fired plant on the Red Sea coast of the Kingdom. It added that the plant will have a daily capacity to desalinate 550,000 cubic meters of water and a power capacity of 2,500 megawatts. The firm, which has 36 plants, noted that its plants on the Red Sea coast burn oil, crude, fuel and cracked oil, while gas is used in its plants on the Gulf coast. It is worth noting that by the end of 2015, SWCC will almost double energy-intensive desalinated water output to approximately 6 million cubic meters a day.
