(MENAFN) Jordan's general department of statistics stated that in the January-September period, the country's oil imports climbed by 23.8 percent to USD4.6 billion, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The agency said that imports of diesel soared by 80 percent, reaching USD1.4 billion, compared with USD800 million in 2011's same period.

Oil imports accounted for 31 percent of the Kingdom's total imports in the period.

It is worth noting that in the first 9 months of 2011, Jordan, which relied heavily on Egyptian natural gas supplies, imported USD3.8 billion worth of oil.
