(MENAFN - ProactiveInvestors - Australia) Lachlan Star (ASX: LSA) has appointed Peter Drobeck, who has over 30 years experience in exploration and mining largely in Latin America, as a non-executive director.
Drobeck's experience includes manager new projects for Silver Standard Resources, where he is responsible for new project generation.
Previous positions include senior vice president, exploration and business development with AuRico from 2008 to 2011.
During his time with AuRico he built the exploration division staff to 28 geologic professionals with a land position of 295,000 hectares, annual drill programs of 200,000 metres, and annual budgets of 40 million in Mexico.
Drobeck was an independent consultant from 1999 to 2006, which included the discovery of NGEX Resources' Vicuna Project "Filo del Sol" breccia pipe copper-gold-silver deposit that straddles the Chile-Argentina border.
He was also a senior district geologist for Newcrest Resources in Chile from 1995 to 1999, where he led the discovery team at the Caspiche gold-copper porphyry through mapping, geophysics and drilling.
Drobeck's knowledge of mining in Latin America, Spanish language skills and geological understanding will provide additional board depth.
This appointment is in line with Lachlan's strategy of moving the focus of its operations to the Americas, where its main asset, the CMD Mine, is located.
Lachlan is continuing to ramp up production at the CMD Mine, which is forecast to produce 75,000 ounces for the 2013 calendar year.
The ultimate goal for Lachlan is to become a 100,000-ounce producer within two years.
