Thousands of trees being distributed


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Tens of thousands of trees intended to commemorate the National Day are being planted in response to an initiative by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Sharjah and Ajman Municipality officials planted trees in the union squares of each emirate. In Sharjah, Salim Obaid Al Shamsi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Municipal Council and Sultan Al Mualla planted the Union Tree to mark the 41th National Day at the Union Square Park. Al Shamsi said the initiative, started by Shaikh Mohammed, had deep meaning for the UAE Nationals. He said it was a symbol of unity, peace, stability and freedom. The planting of Union Trees also means instilling the love of the nation in the citizens' hearts and reflects the process of development and prosperity in the country, he said. Sultan Al Mualla said that Sharjah Municipality was keen on planting the Gaff tree which is a favourite among Emiratis. Yahya Al Reyaysa, Director General of Ajman Municipality also planted the Union Tree at the main Union Square. "The planting of this tree is a symbol of our love for our beloved country and loyalty to its wise leaders," he said. He said Ajman was making great efforts to distribute 10,000 union trees in the emirate to mark the UAE national Day. Currently, the officials at the Parks Department at Ajman Municipality are distributing the Union Tree to all government departments to be planted in their entrances as part of the celebration.
