Call for single GCC tourism visa


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The 4th Gulf Tourism and Investment Forum concluded here on Thursday with a call to benefit from the human element in developing the tourism and investment sector. The participants also recommended the unification of inter-GCC tourism visa. A recommendation in this regard was sent to the ministries of interior in the member states to take necessary measures. The forum hailed the e-linkage between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman in the field of tourism. The two-day forum was held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah. The first session titled, 'Opportunities of tourist investment between the AGCC' was presented by Abdullah Al Shehi from the Secretariat General of the AGCC; Ibrahim Al Nabhani, Chairman of the GCC Tourism Committee; and Major-General Mohammed Ahmed AL Mirri, Director General of the General Department for Residency and Foreigners Affairs. The second session themed 'Tourism " new destinations for Investment' focused on the nature of tourism in the UAE and Fujairah as promising destinations for tourism and the economic and strategic perspective in Fujairah. The third and last session concentrated on promotion of tourism and its importance in attracting tourists and investment in the tourism education sector as well as the development of small and medium size tourism projects. A group of tourism companies took part in the forum and the exhibition that coincided with the event, where tourism services and investment were showcased. The participants said they were keen on taking part in such forums to boost cooperation and interaction between the institutions in the different countries, and described the forum as an opportunity for publicity and promotion for their services. All participants were honoured at the end of the forum.
