(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Barakah bint Thalabah Girls' School, racing for The Wave, Muscat, finished overall winner of the 2012 Championship Cup, as the third edition of the Oman Sail Inter-School Sailing Championships concluded at the Al Musannah Sports City on Monday.The school also won the community girls' division crown. A total of 132 youngsters participated in the sailing extravaganza that featured 14 Omani schools. Besides the overall trophy, there were other class winners in Race Clubs divisions. Munther al Kindi of Al Warth Bin Qa'ab School won the Laser Radial class, Khamis al Wahaibi of Rashid bin al Nadhar won the Laser 4.7 title and Ahmed al Mujaini of Al Khalil bin Ahmed al Farahidi bagged the Optimist class trophy.In the Youth Clubs division, Sultan al Mujaini of Khalil bin Ahmed School won the Q'BA class and Ismail al Zadjali of Al Saidiya School won the Optimist class. The 2012 event attracted 56 sailors from Community Youth Sailing Programmes run by Oman Sail schools at Marina Bandar al Rowdha, Musannah and The Wave, Muscat.Each of these sailing schools was represented by five schools, each of which sent four sailors, except for The Wave, Muscat, which was represented by four schools. Six of the 14 schools that competed were girls' schools. A further 52 sailors represented Race Clubs at Musannah and Marina Bandar al Rowdha with 25 racing in the Optimist class, 15 in Laser 4.7 and 12 in Laser Radial.Another 20 represented the Youth Clubs from Musannah and Marina Bandar al Rowdha with ten sailors in the Optimist class and ten in the Q'BA class. Schools racing under the banner of Marina Bandar al Rowdha Sailing School were Al Bustan and Al Zahara (both girls' schools), Rashid bin al Nadhar, Yiti School and Al Saidiya School.Those sailing for Musannah Sports City were Al Khalil bin Ahmed al Farahidi and Wudam al Sahil Schools, along with three girls' schools - Al Tharmad, Al Izza and Durat al Marifah. Racing for The Wave, Muscat Sailing School were Al Shaik Nasser al Kharousi, Al Shaik Hamdan al Yousifi, Khorais al Hoboos School and Barakah bint Thalabah School. Durat al Ajyal School, which was to join The Wave, Muscat team, was a late pullout from the event.
