(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Communication services provider Omantel has held several workshops for small and medium enterprises to spread awareness about the recently launched Omantel Business Excellence SME Awards initiative.A team from Omantel Business Unit visited Sohar, Nizwa, Sur and Salalah and met with small and medium enterprises. During the meetings, the team received a number of applications for the competition and answered queries of subscribers.The new initiative by Omantel aims at boosting the SME sector and recognising the rising stars, according to a press release.It is also a continuation of the success achieved by the first initiative which was launched earlier this year; the partnership with the business enterprises at which Omantel hosted a number of renowned speakers from different fields to discuss trends in the business sector.Commenting on the initiative, Ali bin Bakhit Kashoob, senior manager, product development at Omantel Business Unit, said, "We have been keen on meeting with subscribers and advising them on the details of the competition. We explained to them the main aims and objectives of the competition, including recognising the success made by shining entrepreneurs who managed to have a toehold in the market despite the tough competition."The main aim behind this initiative by Omantel is to promote the culture of entrepreneurship among the different sectors of our society, especially the SME sector, which is the backbone of our economy and a key driver to sustaining growth,'' he added. The SME awards will be presented in five categories.
