(MENAFN) Areva's Chief Executive, Luc Oursel, announced that the nuclear power engineering giant would invest millions of dollars to establish an offshore wind turbine plant in the east of Scotland, reported Reuters.

Oursel added that the 5-megawatt turbines factory is expected to be operational in 2015 or 2016.

The location of the plant allows the company to take advantage of logistics costs for UK projects and of an increasing cluster of offshore supply chain businesses in the area.

He said that the Scottish site will be the company's third European site for offshore turbines, alongside a future factory in Le Havre in northern France and Germany's existing Bremerhaven plant.

It is worth noting that the plant is forecasted to create nearly 750 jobs.
