GM's Chinese JV opens new USD1.3b plant

(MENAFN) The SAIC-GM-Wuling, a joint venture between General Motors Co. and its Chinese partners, opened a USD1.3 billion plant in China to produce the Baojun brand, reported AP. The plant, based in the southwestern Guangxi province, will produce 400,000 cars on annual basis. Furthermore, the joint venture, which is focused on manufacturing mini-trucks and microvans, is also setting up a powertrain factory. The factory is forecasted to open in September next year, and would make 400,000 engines per year. It is worth noting that China surpassed the US and became the biggest auto market in the world by cars sold in 2009.
