Qatar- KAHRAMAA, Green Building, Barwa Launch BAYTNA Project


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) and Barwa Real Estate Group, on Sunday launched the Passivhaus project called 'Baytna,' which will create a building standard for Qatar that is truly energy efficient, comfortable, economical and environmentally friendly. The three parties signed today, a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) for developing the proposal of the project that focuses on the idea of Airtight Building which seeks to reduce the energy consumed for cooling, and thus, contributes to reducing the negative impact on the environment. The MoU was signed by KAHRAMAA Chairman Eng. Eisa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, Barwa Group's CEO Abdulla Abdulaziz Al-Subaie and the Chairman of QGBC Issa Al-Mohannadi. The project aims to demonstrate the benefits of the Passive House design by building two villas, one following the passive house conditions and a traditional one, to compare the energy consumption and monitor the environmental impact of each. The traditional villa will a One Star building, according to the classification of the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), while the Passive House villa will be a Five Stars building equipped with all the comforts and luxuries of modern housing with 50 per cent lower water and energy consumption and carbon combustion in addition to significant reduction in the environmental impact.
