Kuwait- Mina Abdullah Refinery official lauds maintenance teams 

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Mina Abdullah Refinery Deputy Managing Director Ahmad Al-Jemaz lauded Sunday maintenance teams which managed to complete regular maintenance of the refinery units before scheduled time.

In press statements on the sidelines of the Third Conference of Indian Engineers Association, Al-Jemaz said that refinery now operates with its full capacity.

He unveiled that the Kuwait National Petroleum Company, which owner of the refinery, is making preparations for the lunch of a huge project for clean fuels production.

The project is basically designed to upgrade Mina Abdullah refinery with a view to increasing its daily output and produce environment friendly fuel with significant low sulfur content.

Mina Abdullah Refinery is an affiliate to the Kuwait National Petroleum Company. The Refinery's total area covered by its installations is 7,935,000 m2. It was first built in 1958 during the rule of the late Sheik Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, by the American Independent Oil Company "AMINOIL". It was at that time a simple refinery that contained one crude oil distillation unit with a capacity of approximately 30,000 bpd.

Following several expansion projects between 1962-1967 its refining capacity rose to approximately 145,000 bpd.

Mina Abdullah Refinery became a State property, following a transition period during which the refinery was managed by a national company under the name of "Wafra Oil Company" ownership of the refinery was transferred to KNPC in 1978.
