Mexico Economy Slows

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Mexicos economic growth slowed in the third quarter to its lowest level in 18 months, with official data Friday showing it grew 0.5 percent in the third quarter from the second quarter. Stronger manufacturing activity was dragged down by a slump in farming and a decline in service growth in September, the national statistics agency said. Third-quarter growth compared with a year earlier was healthy at 3.3 percent, even though it slowed from a year-on-year 4.4 percent rate in the second quarter. But despite a continued slowdown in Latin America’s second-biggest economy, Mexico still is headed for an annual growth rate of almost 4 percent this year, analysts said, more than double the expectation for regional rival Brazil.
