(MENAFN) Wal-Mart Stores Inc. stated that third-quarter income rose 9 percent to USD3.63 billion, up from USD3.33 billion in last year's same period, reported AP.

The world's largest retailer said that net revenue, excluding Sam's Club membership fees, gained 3.4 percent, reaching USD113.2 million, however, when excluding the currency impact, net revenue would have been USD114.9 million.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company said that for the whole US business, sales at stores opened at least a year went up 1.7 percent.

At Sam's Club, sales rose 2.7 percent, below the increase of 4.2 percent recorded in the second quarter.

It is worth noting that Wal-Mart is considered an economic bellwether as it accounts for around 10 percent of non-automotive retail spending in the US.
