Dell reports 47% decline in Q3 profit 

(MENAFN) Dell Inc announced that profit plunged 47 percent in the third quarter to USD475 million, compared with USD893 million in last year's same period, reported Reuters.

The company attributed the decline to a decrease in PC sales, weaker demand from large corporations and the swing to mobile computing as more consumers are using smartphones and tablets.

The world's third-biggest computer maker after HP and Lenovo added that revenue fell 11 percent from a year ago, reaching USD13.7 billion

The company's enterprise solutions revenue went up 3 percent to USD4.8 billion, whereas server and networking revenue grew 11 percent.

However, consumer revenue reached USD2.5 billion, representing a drop of 23 percent from 2011's same quarter.

The Texas-based firm said that its sales to large corporations fell 8 percent, reaching USD4.2 billion.

It is worth noting that Dell forecasts fourth-quarter revenue to rise 5 percent.
