(MENAFN - Arab Times) Director of Traffic Planning and Research Department at General Traffic Department Colonel Waleed Al-Ibrahim recently issued intensive traffic statistics of the first nine months of 2012.
According to the statistics, 1,617,933 vehicles were registered during the first nine months of 2012 wherein 35 percent of these vehicles were registered in the Capital Governorate, which are 564,519 while Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate registered the lowest of 5 percent which are 85,701.
He indicated that the number of traffic violations registered during this period was 2,762,583, wherein the number of indirect violations with 68 percent was 1,890,190, which is 6 percent higher than last year.
Compared to last year, the number of serious violations has reduced by 11 percent, which are 26,106 while the speeding violations reduced by 17 percent and the violation of crossing red signal reduced by 19 percent.
Colonel Al-Ibrahim further indicated that the number of administratively suspended driving licenses in all governorates was 31,781 while the number of licenses withdrawn through point system was 592.
The number of seized vehicles from all governorates was 23,404 while the number of motorbikes and buggies seized was 310 and 59 respectively.
He specified that the total number of traffic accidents registered in all governorates was 64,810 wherein most number of accidents was noted in Capital Governorate, which reached 18,362.
He further revealed that 328 death cases due to traffic accidents were registered during the first nine months of 2012, out of which 300 are males, which is 91 percent and 144 are Kuwaiti citizens which is 44 percent, adding that most individuals who died due to traffic accidents were of age group 21-30.
General Traffic Department received 1,148,358 applications for vehicles during this period while Technical Inspection Department examined 671,348 vehicles, which is 3 percent more than last year, Colonel Al-Ibrahim concluded.
