Merkel: Portugal Does Not Need Second Financial Rescue

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Portugal is not expected to ask for a second bailout, nor does it need to renegotiate the terms of its current rescue programme, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in an interview published ahead of her arrival in Lisbon on Monday. Portugal has carried out 'well' the austerity measures agreed with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, Merkel told national broadcaster RTP. 'We hope for the success of this programme,' Merkel said. The programme was negotiated with the EU and the IMF, which in 2011 granted Lisbon a bailout worth 78 billion euros (100 billion dollars).
