(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) A sales executive (41) who allegedly offered Dh2,500 bribe to an employee at the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, was charged with attempted bribery of a public employee on Sunday in the Court of First Instance.

According to prosecution records, the Indian defendant offered the woman, a 22-year-old Emirati who worked in the Purchase Section at the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Dh2,500 to get an approval from the authority officials for letting the publishing house he worked for, win a tender bid on a project of envelopes and booklets for the authority.

The woman said that the incident dated back to July when the authority wanted to publish brochures and booklets and launched a tender bid for best and most suitable prices and offers.

The publishing house, where the accused worked, won the bid as it offered the best price and quality products.

The accused then visited the authority to finalise the contractual procedures and then allegedly asked the woman employee to give the company he worked for, more projects to undertake.

She alleged that he offered to pay her a commission for that service. When she asked him about what he meant he told her that he would pay her a bribe.

She told him that she would consider it and informed her superior who reported the incident to the director.

They coordinated with the police to arrest the accused red-handed. She was instructed to make the accused believe that she was okay with his offer.

She then sent him an email on a project of advertisement signboards and they discussed and agreed on the cost.

They met at a coffee shop in a shopping centre in Al Qusais one afternoon in September.

He showed her samples of the envelopes and brochures, which she signed and handed him a written approval on the project.

The accused then paid her Dh2,500 saying that it was from his own pocket and that he was to be refunded later by his company.

The police officers, who were watching them from a distance, arrested him shortly.

A policeman said that he approached the accused after he paid the woman the money and asked him why he did that.

The accused allegedly told the officer that it was to help her without specifying what kind of help. The accused was arrested and taken into custody.
