Australian Sep home loans up 0.9%


(MENAFN) The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) announced that during the month of September, the number of approved home loans edged up 0.9 percent from a month earlier, reported Xinhua News. The agency said that in the month, 46,395 owner-occupied loans were approved, up from 45,983 in August. It added that the total value of dwelling finance commitments, excluding alterations and additions, grew 3.8 percent, with investment housing commitments up 8.6 percent. According to Australian financial firm CommSec chief economist, Craig James, the figures indicate that there's higher confidence by borrowers, or that home prices are slightly rising.
