Apple, HTC reach settlement over patent dispute

(MENAFN) HTC's Corp chief executive, Peter Chou, announced that the company has settled a patent dispute with Apple Inc, reported Reuters. In 2010, Apple filed a lawsuit against HTC, accusing it of infringing the US firm's patented technology. Apple's chief executive, Tim Cook, stated that he was pleased to reach a settlement that was accompanied with a 10-year licensing deal, which puts an end to one of the first major conflagrations of the smartphone patent wars. Late 2011, the US International Trade Commission ruled that the Taiwanese firm had infringed upon one of four patents Apple had disputed and imposed a sales ban on some of HTC's phones. Even though HTC said it had developed a technical workaround to Apple's patents, in May, the company said that US customs officials were holding up shipments of its phones. It is worth noting that in August, Apple won a USD1.05 billion verdict against South Korea's Samsung.
