(MENAFN - Arab News) Under the aegis of Aalami Urdu Markaz Jeddah, a condolence meeting was organized for Syed Mahtab Ahmad, its finance secretary and a prominent social worker of the Pakistani and Indian communities.
The largely attended meeting remembered Mahtab for his social and community work. The program started in the name of Allah with Qari Muhammad Asif reciting some verses from the Qur'an with Urdu translation. Masaood Abbasi presented Naat in the praise of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Mohsin Alvi prayed for Mahtab's forgiveness. People belonging to different schools of thoughts and political, social and literary organizations' representatives recalled his services for the cause of Urdu language and literature.
Hamid Islam conducted the proceedings and invited poets to recite their poems in honor of Mahtab.
Tahseem ul haq Haqi participated on behalf of Pakistan's Consul General Abdul Salik Khan. He said that his support would remain with Aalami Urdu Markaz. Syed Fahad Ahmad, son of Syed Mahtab, thanked Aalami Urdu Markaz and friends of his father for organizing the
meeting.
Aalami Urdu Markaz President Athar Abbasi paid homage to the departed soul who was a devoted member of Urdu Markaz. Abbasi said Mahtab was a pillar of Urdu Markaz and his passing away was an irreparable loss. He added that financial aid would be given to students as 'sadqa e jaria' in the name of Mahtab. He also said that the 6th All Pakistan Mushaira would be held in memory of Mahtab.
Participants of the meting included Waqaruddin, Yousufuddin, Jamal Qadri, Ehsan ul haq, Rohail Ali Khan, Malik Mohiuddin, Rasheed Chisti, Iftikhar Chaudry, Naushad Usman, Riaz Gumen, Luqman Seth, Shehabuddin, Zammarud Saifee, Khalid Kathoria, Siadat Hussain, Farhan Siddiqui, Naeem Hamid Al-Hamid, Jameel Rathore, Behjat Najmi, Khalil ur Rahman, Qamar Haider Qamar, Azeez Ahmed, Aftab Turabi, Munawwar, Mukhtar Ali, Farooq Munis, Nasir Barni, Mahtab Qadar, Irfan Hashmi, Khalid Kidwai, Riaz Bukhari, Mohsin Alvi, Amir Khurshid and Ateeq ur Rahman.
