Some 1,000 Syrian refugees cross to Jordan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Some 1,000 Syrian refugees had crossed to Jordan yesterday (Friday) and were settled at the Zaatari camp north of the country, said an official here in remarks published on Saturday. According to Al-Ghad newspaper, General Coordinator for the affairs of Syrian refugees in Syria, Anmar Al-Humoud, said that the new addition increased the numbers of refugees at the camp to 41,000, adding that the estimated numbers of Syrian refugees in Jordan was at 215,000. The number of UN registered Syrian refugees in Jordan amounted to 103,000 out of a total number of 294,000 sine violence erupted in the Arab country 20 months ago. Jordan, along with Iraq, Turkey, and Lebanon, had been hosting around 408, 000 Syrian refugees fleeing violence in their country. Yesterday, around 11, 000 refugees escaped to neighboring states to avoid on the on-going conflict in Syria which has been raging for 20 months.
