NZ's jobless rate grows to 7.3%

(MENAFN) Statistics New Zealand announced that the country's jobless rate rose to 7.3 percent in the July-September quarter to 175, 000, reported Xinhua News. The agency said that the rate, which is up from the 6.8 percent posted in the previous quarter, hit its highest level in 13 years, putting the government under pressure to tackle the job crisis. Jobless rate grew for the second straight quarter, with the number of men employed in full time jobs falling, whereas the number of women with jobs rising over the quarter. It is worth noting that in the September quarter, the number of people in work declined by 8,000, or 0.4 percent, reaching nearly 2.2 million, reducing the employment rate to 63.4 percent from 63.8 percent.
