(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has saved at least Dh1.75 million in resources, by helping customers review their water and power consumption and giving them tips to maximise the use of energy.
Dewa is now providing an electricity and water consumption efficiency review service across its customers' buildings in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan and Dubai's Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to effectively manage the consumption of electricity and water through sustainable practices.
The buildings that were reviewed during the last nine months of this year saved around 2.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 20 million gallons of water, translating to a saving of around Dh1.75 million, Dewa said in a Press statement yesterday.
The authority did not provide the total number of the buildings reviewed this year. However, it said Dewa conducted the electricity and water efficiency review for 35 buildings this September 2012, compared to 26 buildings in 2011. And the review covered buildings in various sectors including government, hotels and shopping centres.
"Dewa's consumers were informed about achieving electricity and water consumption efficiency in buildings, while also maintaining the necessary standards of living," it stated.
The first phase of the review involves checking the lighting, air conditioning and water systems, and aims at promoting conservation opportunities and maximising consumption efficiency by making recommendations for improvements where required. In the second phase, Dewa will monitor the power and water consumption in buildings that have been reviewed to ensure that consumers follow recommended procedures.

"We have already provided the necessary recommendations for electricity and water consumption efficiency for many government facilities, hotels and shopping centres to benefit our customers, conserve resources and protect the environment," he said.
