(MENAFN - Arab News) I have read with pleasure the article "Give me light" by Maha Akeel. I would like to join Akeel in her call for women and men living in Saudi Arabia to take the issue of vitamin D deficiency seriously.
I was told by a number of physicians that more than 90 percent of Saudis suffer from vitamin D deficiency and the solution is to expose yourself to the sun early morning and late afternoon. I suggest that schools for boys and girls make sure that students get enough sun during the morning gathering of the students in the playground of the schools.
In parallel, schools should conduct a campaign to familiarize the students with the problem and invited specialists from time to time to complement that campaign. The Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia should also be leading in this campaign by providing to schools the necessary knowledge and know how to showcase the problem and provide the solutions to the country's young generation.
I once again I raise hat for Akeel for shedding the light on an issue of vital importance to everybody in this country.
