Windreich AG, the most successful developer, engineer, installer, and operator of offshore wind farms is also way forward in energy-efficient driving. Dipl.-Wirt.-Ing. (FH) Willi Balz, founder and sole shareholder proved it on 3 November, as he sovereignly won the Future Car Challenge 2012. 'Windreich Me 1'; a model he developed himself was the overall winner to occuppy the first place in the categories 'Most Energy Efficient Sport Car' and 'Best Pure Electric Vehicle'. In addition, the two-seater conquered the hearts of many viewers and won the audience choice 'The Best Future Car'.
The Future Car Challenge (FCC) is the world's most significant competition for energy-efficient mobility. The participants included all leading automobile manufacturers, universities, and small-scale-manufacturers, powered by electric, hybrid, hydrogen and ICE drives. Organized every November through the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) London, engineering teams and drivers prove their pioneering work in the field of innovation for future mobility. The automobile elites met for the third time in the seaside resort of Brighton to compete against their challengers. The goal was to drive at a maximum energy-efficiency in a concise given time frame. The winner was determined by comparing various concepts of an equivalence table developed by the University of London. More than 100,000 spectators celebrated the finish with the drivers in London's Regent Street and rejoiced with the winners.
'After the great successes in the past week; the sale of our offshore wind farm 'Deutsche Bucht' and the successful conclusion of negotiations with the network operator TenneT for the timely grid connection, I am even more delighted with the victory. We hereby demonstrate that we are not only leading in efficient energy production, but also with its economical use. With 'Windreich Me 1' we surpass and win last year's record of Formula 1 designer legend Gordon Murray. The car design has an aerodynamic advantage due to its arrangement similar to a glider; two seats one behind the other. On top of that, the car has a curb weight of only 300 kg, which aided in achieving distances up to 400 km without any problems.
We systematically combine the most efficient form of energy and the drive concept with the highest efficiency: Wind power with e-mobility. We produced the charging current on site using our in-house-designed mobile wind charger. Thus we form the complete process chain from wind turbine to the rear wheel. Daimler AG has followed in this efficient path: by purchasing one of our Windreich wind mills in Bavaria, energy for the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive fleet is produced' comments Willi Balz, the head of Windreich AG regarding his first place achievement in the Future Car Challenge 2012 in London, adding: 'With the inexhaustible wind strength, everything will succeed, including the energy transition.'
